Despite its name, the recognisable variety of Boston Fern emerged in 1894 when a Central American fern grower shipped to a Boston florist. One of the plants had wider fronds with a more graceful arch than standard ferns, which led to an explosion in popularity and the unique name. The original cultivar was grown in the high-humidity swampy regions of Polynesia, Africa, and Central and South America. However, it also thrives in the West Indies, Mexico, and Florida. That’s why it’s a tricky plant to keep alive, but not with our realistic artificial version. It’s as simple as finding the perfect place to set it.

Our FAQ’s
Where is the Boston Fern Plant native to?
What material is the Boston Fern Plant made of?
We use the highest grade of fabrics, polymers, and polyesters in all of our artificial plants, and the Boston Fern is no different. With a keen attention to detail, we want to capture accurate textures and details in every leaf. While our plants are artificial, we go to great lengths to ensure they look as realistic as possible. The high-quality materials we use allow for intricate detailing across plant features, which makes each look highly realistic and incredibly durable. They’re easy to clean, simple to maintain, and ideal for commercial spaces and residential areas.
Where should I place the Boston Fern Plant?
From the bedroom to the bathroom, dining room, or kitchen, our artificial Boston Fern plant looks at home just about anywhere. As they don’t require the careful attention of their fussy natural counterparts, you can keep them wherever you like. It’s known for its arching silhouette, which makes it a great choice for elevation. Pair with a hanging planter if you want to see the fronds cascading downward, ideal for use in a library, laundry room, or bathroom. Alternatively, opt for a pot to place on a shelf, coffee table, or even perched on a countertop.
Does the Boston Fern Plant come with a pot?
No, our Boston Fern Plant arrives with a bare stem. However, you can shop our full range of decorative pots for the perfect match. Alternatively, you can review the selection of carefully curated pots our stylists have chosen specifically to pair with our artificial Boston Fern plant. Once you find your perfect match, just add it to the basket and check out once you have all the plants, pots, and planters you’re looking for. Our size guide can help. We also have some advice on styling your space.
Is the Boston Fern Plant suitable for indoor or outdoor use?
Our artificial Boston Fern Plant is rated for indoor use only; it was not designed to withstand the harsh glare of UV rays or heavy rain and inclement weather. We utilise the highest quality of materials possible to produce the most authentic-looking artificial plants possible, which means that certain designs can only be used indoors. However, we do have a wide range of artificial plants rated for outdoor use, including UV-rated ferns. If you do choose an outdoor-rated artificial plant, ensure the pot or planter is also suitable for use outdoors.
How do I clean and maintain my Boston Fern Plant?
Looking after one of our artificial plants couldn’t be easier. The Boston Fern requires very little upkeep; it’s as simple as regular dusting. While you can use a feather duster, more focused attention with a microfibre cloth can prevent staining and fading. For a deeper clean, make up a batch of warm, soapy water and dampen a clean cloth to wipe the leaves down. While you can leave it to air dry, you can also use a fresh cloth to polish each leaf dry.
How long will my artificial Boston Fern Plant last?
If kept indoors and out of bright, direct sunlight your fake Boston Fern Plant can last for many years. Regular dusting of the leaves and minimising UV exposure will help to avoid staining, fading and other damage, aiding in extending the longevity of your plant.
How do I choose the right Boston Fern size and style for my space?
The right size depends on your space, the mounting style, and the visual volume of the plant. Boston Ferns are dense, so they require more horizontal space than a Sansevieria does. If you plan to place your Boston Fern in a narrow spot or next to a small table, the more compact the better. This is the ideal spot for the 45 cm Boston Fern, while the 58 cm model is more suitable for a countertop, or large table Also consider whether you’re looking for a trailing look in a hanging planter or if you want to pot it.
